The Cooperation Curse and The Take Charge Tax
Women are subjected to a catch-22 in the workplace where they are expected to walk a very narrow line between cooperation and taking charge. Gendered expectations dictate that they cooperate and defer to others' visions, while corporate culture demands that they command a room and lead. We are often both cursed by one and taxed for the other as we attempt to meet expectations, influence our peers, and lead in the modern workplace.
This talk will focus on the hidden societal, cultural, and corporate expectations that shape how we show up as leaders at work.
Talk Outline
You’ll get:
- The Cooperation/Take Charge behavioral continuum (and how to assess your natural style)
- The strengths and weaknesses that come with your natural style of behaviour
- Gendered expectations that make it difficult for women to fit neatly into their roles at work
- When and how to adjust your behaviour to get the results you want at work
The goal of this talk is to reveal the hidden patterns of this all-too-familiar catch-22 so you can show up intentionally and increase your influence.
