Interested in volunteering with WIMDI?
Great! Let's tell you a bit about what it's like.
At WIMDI, we try our best to make sure that our volunteers are in a win-win relationship with us.
We want to know who you are, what your career goals are, and how we can help. We love working with people who want to expand their skills through their involvement with WIMDI. We have a large community and lots of interesting projects, so we encourage our volunteers to leverage our brand and their experience with us to help their careers. We especially love to be enthusiastic referrers of our volunteers for future work!
We believe that our volunteer positions should fit our volunteers, and not the other way around.
Damn, all of us have lives outside of this group! Most of WIMDI's positions have very manageable time commitments of a few hours per month or less, and we're happy to split up work to make it work for our volunteers when life gets busy or their availability changes.
We're a team and we have each other's backs.
Oh, and it's fun!
We have a great community full of ambitious women. Creating resources for our members feels great -- and it's even better when our members have #WIMDIwins in their careers as a result.
We love contributing to our members' career success, and we know you will, too.
Into it?
Here's a list of our open positions:
WIMDI's social media is one of the many important ways we connect the world with our awesome resources. Our social media accounts on LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube and Tik Tok help our community learn about our talks and disseminate useful advice and in-depth how-to articles about careers, leadership, and feminism. This position is part of our small-yet-nimble marketing team that is designing WIMDI's digital marketing strategy.
Important skills and qualities for this volunteer are creativity, writing compelling copy, and a love of short-form video. We prefer for our social media content to be scheduled and ready to go ahead of time, so being detail-oriented and reliable is crucial. Our social media presence is steadily growing and this is a great opportunity for anyone keen to help develop current strategies and play with new ideas to refine what really works. This role is perfect for someone who's passionate about social and who wants to collect a host of success stories and awesome before-and-after stats that will look great on your resume. Amazing, right?
4-8 hours/month
Ever been to one of WIMDI's amazing Speaker Series events and thought to yourself, "Damn, where'd they find this sweet office to host this interesting event?" Here's our secret: Our Partnerships volunteer hooked us up!
WIMDI's Partnerships volunteer is the amazing individual that talks to companies, external sponsors, and other groups to make sure we have what we need to blow the socks off of our members. They handle event hosting, food & drink sponsorship, and in-kind donations that help us put on 24 free-or-dirt-cheap (but mostly free) events every year.
We'd love for this volunteer to have a large network in Vancouver (or the ability to build one), and some good old fashioned sales skills. We have several established partners already, but a little cold calling or LinkedIn reach out shouldn't scare you. We're looking for a get-it-done-early type who's outgoing and great with phone and email follow up so we get our partners secured well in advance of when we need them.
Are you a newbie who's interested in developing your network and getting better at talking to companies? Amazing! We'd love to support you growing into the role. This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in building their network in Vancouver and improving their sales or negotiation skills. Interested?
3-4 hours/month
Ever looked at a WIMDI speaker’s presentation and thought wow, that’s actually pretty professional looking!? Our WIMDI PowerPoint volunteer is our secret weapon! This wonderful volunteer takes the detailed talk outlines produced by our speakers and speaker coaches and turns them into coherent, nicely organized, visually pleasing PowerPoints that help our audience digest and fall in love with everything our speakers have to say. Important skills for this volunteer are a keen eye for visuals, grammar, and accessibility, as well as the ability to work async and deliver presentations on time.
This would be a great role for anyone who wants to improve their graphic design and presentation-building. We’ll train you on our presentation templates and accessibility standards, so you’ll be well-supported in producing gorgeous products with ease.
4-8 hours/month
Each month, I spend time with our speakers to make sure that they have a presentation that is coherent, nicely organized, visually pleasing, and full of insights for WIMDI members. The lovely that takes this over will help me ensure that our speakers are successful each month. Important skills for this volunteer are a mild level of nerdiness about talks and presentations, as well as a keen eye for visuals and grammar.
Communication skills and diplomacy are also important since your job will be to help speakers be their best through feedback. This would be a great role for anyone who wants to improve their presentation or people management skills. I am happy to help whoever takes on this role learn the WIMDI presentation standard, so no worries if you're interested in presentations, but still a bit of a newbie.
2-6 hours/month
Have you ever looked at our website and thought, "Damn, who built that?" The WIMDI Website Volunteer, that's who!
Our Website Volunteer role is the wizard that puts everything we do up on ye olde internet and makes it functional and amazing looking. We count on this role to help us design new pages that we use to communicate with our community, integrate tech solutions with our website seamlessly, and make sure the whole shebang stays up, secure, and functional. This position works primarily with our Marketing and Design volunteers to execute their vision online.
Important skills for this volunteer are CSS knowledge, love for keeping design as simple as possible, and a kind-of-intense dedication to and maintaining naming conventions in their code. Over the next 24 months, WIMDI is launching a number of new things that will require net-new webpages as we create new resources and functionality for our community. This is the role for you if you want to be involved in lots of ground-up design to create a site that is lightweight, easy to update, and has a strong brand alignment. We use WordPress for our site and have integrations with MailChimp, LeadPages, Calendly, and several other behind-the-scenes widgets. This role is perfect for someone looking to get into the weeds and design some new stuff that will look amazing on their portfolio and get lots of use by our community. Fun, no?

Important skills for this volunteer are creativity, a good sense of design for web & print, and an unreasonable love of our ugly-but-amazing #DDFF00 accent colour. Over the next 24 months, WIMDI is launching a number of new things that will require ground-up design that aligns with our current branding. This is the role for you if you want to be involved in crafting our visual presence from early stages and helping us develop our playbook of go-to brand elements that make up the signature WIMDI look and feel. We'd love for you to have some experience in Photoshop, but we're open to other packages too. This role is perfect for a design nerd that delights in getting things pixel perfect and wants to add WIMDI to their portfolio of successes. Amazing, right?
