The Hidden Scorecard: How Promotions & Pay Are Really Decided

What do competitive cheerleading and workplace promotions have in common? Everything!

When we see someone fresh off a win – whether it’s a first-place finish for their cheer squad or a bigger team and a fancy new title at work – we tend to attribute their advancement to their artistry, talent, and skill. But the truth is more nuanced than that.

It’s not just your performance that matters – it’s how your performance stacks up against the hidden scorecard you’re being judged by. If you want to get ahead, you need to understand the scoring rubric, the timing of key conversations, and the way the folks judging your performance think.

Talk Outline:

This talk will focus on giving you the tools to get high scores from the judges (your boss) and make your career fly (get promoted). We’ll cover:

  • How performance reviews, promotions, and pay decisions get made at work
  • Actions to take at every point in the process to help you get ahead
  • The unexpected cheerleading mindset shift that drives high performance
  • How to leverage feedback to improve your skills so you can be a standout on the team

The goal of this talk is to give you an inside look at how companies approach their performance frameworks so you can maximize your career growth.
